The Mill Room is Old World cooking for the New World. History runs deep here — from our original wood beams in our dining room dating back to 1834 to our long legacy of farm-focused, regional cuisine. Executive Chef Dale Ford’s menu is built around Virginia agriculture first and foremost, sourcing locally-grown produce and meat from best-practice purveyors and using ingredients from on-site hydroponic and aquaponic gardens to reinvent southern cuisine with a modern twist. We’re deeply connected to our land, our legacy, and invite you to enjoy our seasonal, farm-focused dining with a heaping helping of local soul. Whether joining us for a burger and local beer, or a celebratory dinner, we’re here to please at every turn.

Unfortunately the Sunday brunch was understaffed with cold and inedible food. The turkey sausage was placed in same serving tray as regular sausage and bacon so not only was it difficult to determine which was which, but for those with allergies, cross contamination. The very nice and well intended server at the waffle/omelet station was doing his best to keep up with the lines. The beef was displayed at length with no server. The warming tables do not keep the food warm. The brunch was definately overpriced for a 4 star restaurant.

Maybe they were having an off day, but things went downhill shortly after our Bloody Marys arrived. I got the chicken pot pie, my wife got the lobster pot pie. The potatoes in both dishes were nowhere near cooked. I rarely send food back, but the chicken pot pie was mostly undercooked potatoes, so I couldn't really eat around them. My wife, for some reason, ate her dish, leaving the potatoes...After I returned the dish, our waitress didn't come back for my order for another 10-15 minutes. I ordered a kale salad with a grilled chicken breast and ordered a dirty martini. The waitress brought a blueberry mint cocktail, wrong, and 15-20 minutes later brought me a Caesar salad, wrong again! Haha. Luckily, (and eventually) I got my martini on the house.Hopefully we just caught them on a bad day...Ian Topolsky
